Introduction to the role of the nursing assistant for clients across the wellness/illness continuum within the nurse assisting scope of practice. Includes basic problem solving processes specific to meeting the basic and holistic needs of clients, therapeutic communication skills, interventions to ensure the needs and safety of the client, specific types of diseases, conditions and alterations in behavior of the client. Focus is on the special needs of the older adult client in the acute and long-term care settings, and basic care skills and procedures. Provides opportunity for the development of clinical competency in the performance of selected nurse assisting skills and procedures through participation in the care of clients. Prerequisites: Reading and math assessment as well as completion of all required Health and Safety documents. |

Prepares the advanced placement nursing assistant student for the Certified Nursing Assistant (CNA) certification or Licensed Nursing Assistant (LNA) examination. The student will care for clients across the wellness/illness continuum within the scope of practice of the CNA/LNA. Includes basic problem solving processes specific to meeting the basic and holistic needs of clients, therapeutic communication skills, as well as interventions to ensure the needs and safety of the client. Provides opportunity for the student to show proficiency in the performance of basic nursing assistant skills and procedures through laboratory activities and participation in the care of clients. Licensing is the exclusive responsibility of the Arizona State Board of Nursing. Prerequisites: 1 yr full-time OR 2 yrs part-time employment of direct patient care in past 5 yrs OR successfully completed crswrk that include direct patient care exp. in allied hlth, medicine or nursing in past 5 yrs OR Division Chairperson permission. |
